Inner Heroes is a visual storytelling journey that combines video, photography, and narrative into a unique and lasting experience. Divided into three phases — Awakening (6 to 12), Quest (13 to 24), and Legacy (25+) — Inner Heroes was created to recognize, record, and celebrate the essential values that empower us to face the world with confidence and resilience.
As parents, we know that building our children’s self-esteem is perhaps our ultimate mission. In a fast-paced and fragmented digital world, if it is easy for us to feel overwhelmed or disconnected—imagine how it is for those who are still developing.
The Inner Heroes Awakening satge offers a path and lasting memories (like portraits) that empower our children to recognize their inner ‘superpowers’: virtues that can be practiced and celebrated every day.
Inspired by the principles of storytelling and the values of martial arts, Inner Heroes is a simple 3-step process:
1. The Choice: Your child selects a Power Card representing a value they identify with.
2. The Voice: A brief filmed interview captures their authentic voice and perspective.
3. The Portrait: A professional photo session captures the visual essence of their chosen power.
In the end, a story, a memory, and a hero are revealed. Forever.
Within a week, you will select your ‘Top 3’ images. They will be delivered as high-resolution digital files, along with the interview video and a special bonus: a personalized ‘Superhero Poster’ digital file*. It’s a powerful reminder that they are the heroes of their own story.
Hi, I’m Marco Novaes—father and visual storyteller. With over 30 years of experience as a graphic designer, advertiser, and photographer, I have always believed that a photograph is only complete when it carries a story. My career in communications taught me the craft, but fatherhood gave me the ‘why.’
I am currently deepening my passion for storytelling through the University of Toronto (UofT) Storytelling program. Inner Heroes is a project on this journey that combines the visual precision of advertising, the intimacy of portraiture, and the transformative power of narrative. It is designed to help our children recognize that they already have everything they need to be the heroes of their own stories.
