A mother raccoon (and yep, all raccoon moms are single) left one of her five babies in our backyard. After two nights alone, we stepped in and rescued her. We reached out to over 20 shelters, but no luck. So, we made the call to give her a home ourselves. Once she was done nursing, we released her back into our yard. For the next two months, she hung out with our cats, getting braver each day until she was ready to explore the nearby ravine. Then one day, just like that, she was gone. Wild, but oh so sweet.
